“You Have 24 Hours to Leave,” My Husband Told Me While I Was 28 Weeks Pregnant With Triplets—Then He Left With Another Woman. By Midnight, I Was Alone and in Premature Labor When a Feared Billionaire Stepped Into My Story. What He Discovered About My Late Mother Explained the Secret My Husband Had Been Hiding for Six Weeks

Part 2 of 3

“So my husband destroyed our marriage because he didn’t want Grant involved in a trust for our children?”

Arthur chose his words carefully.

“I think he was afraid it meant his father trusted another man to provide something he couldn’t.”

Grant shook his head.

“That’s absurd. I barely knew Richard.”

Brooke finally spoke.

“Nolan didn’t see it that way.”

Paige felt something unexpected.

Not forgiveness.

Understanding.

For years she had mistaken Nolan’s confidence for security.

Now she could see the frightened man beneath it—the son who had spent his entire life trying to prove he was enough.

That did not excuse what he had done.

It simply explained why a successful man could behave so foolishly.

The Letters Paige Was Never Supposed to Read

That evening, Paige opened the letters her mother and Rosalie had exchanged.

She read them alone.

They were not dramatic confessions.

They were better than that.

They were real.

Rosalie wrote about missing Diane.

Diane wrote about regret.

They remembered childhood summers, ruined birthday cakes, their father’s terrible singing, and nights when they whispered beneath blankets after everyone else had gone to sleep.

One sentence from Rosalie stayed with Paige.

“We spent too many years deciding who was right when we should have been deciding how to find our way back to each other.”

Another letter had been written shortly after Paige started dating Nolan.

Her mother mentioned him by name.

Diane admitted that she knew exactly who Nolan’s family was.

But she deliberately chose not to tell Paige.

She wanted her daughter to fall in love without old family history standing between them.

Paige cried when she read that.

Her mother had made mistakes.

So had Rosalie.

But their silence had come from fear, not cruelty.

They had simply waited too long to understand that hiding the past rarely prevented it from reaching the future.

Nolan Finally Came Back

The following morning, Nolan asked to see Paige.

She agreed on one condition.

Brooke stayed in the room.

When Nolan entered, Paige barely recognized him.

His clothes were wrinkled.

His face looked exhausted.

He stopped several feet from her bed.

“How are the babies?”

“Still where they’re supposed to be.”

Relief crossed his face.

“Thank God.”

Paige’s expression remained firm.

“Don’t start with gratitude. Start with the truth.”

Nolan sat down.

For once, the man who could command a boardroom seemed unable to find words.

Finally, he admitted everything.

Vanessa had been real.

Their relationship had lasted several months.

But Nolan had not been planning some romantic new life with her.

“Then what was she?” Paige asked.

Nolan stared at the floor.

“An escape.”

“From me?”

He shook his head.

“From the person I was afraid I was becoming.”

He admitted learning about the trust had embarrassed him.

He had seen Grant’s name and immediately remembered years of hearing his father praise another man.

Instead of telling Paige he felt insecure, he withdrew.

Instead of asking for help, he looked for distraction.

Instead of admitting fear, he made decisions that hurt his wife.

“I spent years trying to look strong,” Nolan said. “And when I finally felt small, I made you pay for it.”

Paige felt tears gathering but refused to look away.

“You left while I was carrying three children.”

“I know.”

“You knew my access to some of our shared accounts had been suspended.”

“Yes.”

“And you didn’t fix it immediately.”

Nolan swallowed.

“No.”

“Why?”

There was a long silence.

“Pride.”

One word.

Paige realized it explained almost everything.

An Apology Wasn’t Enough

Nolan told Paige he had already restored her access and instructed the family office to permanently separate her personal finances from his.

He also withdrew the demand that she leave their apartment immediately.

Paige listened.

Then she said quietly:

“I’m still not coming home.”

Nolan nodded.

“I didn’t expect you to.”

He offered to cover any medical expenses related to the babies that insurance did not cover.

Paige asked about custody.

Nolan did not pretend to have an answer.

“I want to be their father,” he said. “But I don’t know what they’ll need when they’re born. Maybe we let their doctors guide us, then work with an independent family mediator.”

That answer surprised her.

It was practical.

Not controlling.

Not theatrical.

For the first time, Nolan seemed more interested in doing something useful than looking powerful.

As he stood to leave, he stopped at the door.

“Paige, when they’re born… please tell me.”

She looked at him for a long moment.

“You’re their father. You shouldn’t need to beg for that.”

Hope appeared in his eyes.

Paige immediately added:

“But being their father is something you’ll have to prove through actions, not promises.”

Nolan nodded.

“I understand.”

Three Tiny New Beginnings

Paige managed to carry the babies several more weeks.

Then, early one morning, everything began moving quickly.

This time she wasn’t alone.

Brooke was beside her.

Grant was nearby.

Nolan arrived less than thirty minutes after receiving the call.

When the first tiny cry filled the delivery room, Paige began crying too.

Then came another.

And finally the third.

Two girls.

One boy.

All premature.
