Super Bowl viewers divided at what happened when camera panned to Donald Trump during national anthem

Donald Trump made history as the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl. However, reactions were mixed when the cameras captured him during the national anthem.

As the Kansas City Chiefs faced off against the Philadelphia Eagles at the New Orleans Superdome on February 9, Grammy-winning artist Jon Batiste delivered a powerful rendition of the American anthem. While the camera briefly showed Trump taking his seat, the crowd’s response sparked debate.

Some spectators believed the president was being booed, with one person commenting online that the reaction wasn’t loud enough. Another remarked that showing Trump during the anthem forced “half of America to boo.”

However, not everyone was certain about the crowd’s response. Some wondered if the noise was actually cheers rather than boos, with one viewer questioning whether it was “difficult to tell.” Another echoed the confusion, asking if the Super Bowl audience had cheered or booed the president.

Before the game, Trump shared his excitement about attending, stating, “I look forward to joining the fans in New Orleans for Super Bowl LIX to cheer on two great teams – the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles – as they battle for the National Football League’s Vince Lombardi Trophy.”

He praised the players, coaches, and staff, calling them “the best of the best in professional football” and highlighting their dedication and hard work. Trump also emphasized the broader significance of the game, saying, “They represent the hopes and dreams of our Nation’s young athletes as we restore safety and fairness in sports and equal opportunities among their teams.”

Describing football as “America’s most popular sport – for good reason,” Trump noted that it fosters national unity and strengthens communities. He also acknowledged the role of military service members, law enforcement officers, and first responders, stating, “We value their devotion to protecting our great Nation and salute their selfless service.”
