Prince William Gives the Most Endearing Answer When Boy Asks If He Is the King

Prince William had the perfect response when a student questioned his royal status during a recent school visit.

During a trip to Liverpool’s Toxteth area on January 23, the 42-year-old Prince of Wales was meeting community groups supporting young people when a young boy named Mohammed asked if he was “the King.”

William, quick with a diplomatic reply, responded, “No, I’m not, no. I’m his son,” referring to King Charles.

Rather than dwelling on himself, William smoothly shifted the conversation to Mohammed. “What’s your name? Mohammed. How are you, Mohammed? Nice to see you. Did you have a good day at school?” he asked. As a father to Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, William is well-versed in chatting with kids and making them feel at ease.

In a lighthearted moment, someone offscreen appeared to remove Mohammed’s hat, prompting laughter from William. “Don’t worry. He needs it on to keep his ears warm. It’s cold out here, it’s very cold today,” he said, rubbing his hands for warmth before continuing to greet other students.

The heartwarming interaction didn’t end there. St. Nicholas Catholic Academy later shared a video of Prince William and Mohammed posing for a selfie. “Something to brighten up your day!!!” the school wrote in a post on January 28. “So… one of our amazing Year 5 children managed to not only have a chat with @KensingtonRoyal Prince William, he also managed to get a selfie!”

In recent years, Prince William and Princess Kate, 43, have fully embraced the selfie trend, often pausing for photos when asked. Known for their warm approach with children, the royal couple frequently kneels to speak at eye level, making their interactions even more personal.

William’s conversation with Mohammed also echoed a relatable moment he shared about his own kids. According to Hello!, students from Princes Primary School and English Martyrs Catholic Primary School admitted they couldn’t remember what they had learned in class. Laughing, William confessed, “I ask my children this every day, and they always say absolutely nothing at all.”

The Prince and Princess of Wales’ three children attend Lambrook School near their Windsor home. Recently, the family took a break from their routine to enjoy their half-term holiday on the private Caribbean island of Mustique, a long-time favorite getaway destination for them.
