A royal insider has shared an update about a decision King Charles has made regarding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex quit taking part in official royal duties in 2020, which led to the late Queen Elizabeth II removing their HRH titles. They were able to keep their Sussex titles.
Buckingham Palace confirmed in January 2020 that the couple would no longer use HRH titles because they were no longer working members of the Royal Family.
The couple’s decision to step back from royal duties was announced shortly before they moved with Archie to California in June 2020. Lilibet was born in Santa Barbara, California in June 2021.
When Charles ascended the throne, Harry and Meghan’s children officially became Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet of Sussex.
Despite ongoing calls for Harry and Meghan to be stripped of their honorary titles, a royal insider—who is said to have close knowledge of King Charles—claimed the monarch is not a “punitive” person and would “never want to humiliate” his son and daughter-in-law.
Speaking to the Mail, the source mentioned that while Buckingham Palace is reviewing “all options on the table,” revoking the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s titles is not among the considerations.
In a related development, official documents filed with Companies House in April 2024 confirmed that Prince Harry’s primary country of residence is listed as the United States, rather than the UK, as some might have expected.
The Sussexes no longer have an official residence in the UK, and in early 2023, they were asked to leave Frogmore Cottage, a Grade-II listed property on the Windsor Estate.
More recently, The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank in the US, has repeatedly raised questions about Harry’s immigration status. Their concerns stem from his admissions in Spare, where he spoke about using cocaine, marijuana, and psychedelic mushrooms.
The organization is pushing for the US government to release his immigration records to determine whether he disclosed his past drug use, as failing to do so could have impacted his visa eligibility.
However, in September 2024, US judge Carl Nichols ruled that Prince Harry’s visa application would remain confidential.
Just five months after the case appeared to be settled, a lawsuit aiming to unseal Prince Harry’s U.S. immigration records is set to be discussed in court this month.
Despite the legal challenge, the Duke of Sussex likely doesn’t need to worry about deportation—at least, not according to Donald Trump. The former president made it clear he has no interest in sending Harry back to the UK, but not for a reason the prince would appreciate.
When asked about the matter, Trump bluntly stated, “I don’t want to do that.”
Speaking to the New York Post, he elaborated: “I’ll leave him alone. He’s got enough problems with his wife. She’s terrible.”
After taking an unnecessary swipe at Meghan, Trump shifted gears to praise Prince William, saying: “I think William is a great young man.”
