Before the Duke of Sussex arrived in London to address a government decision regarding his security, King Charles III and Queen Camilla embarked on a meaningful journey to Italy.

On April 7, 2025, the King and Queen began a four-day state visit to Italy, aimed at honoring and deepening the long-standing relationship between the UK and Italy. The timing of this diplomatic mission coincided with Prince Harry’s return to London to legally challenge the UK government’s stance on his personal security.

Throughout their visit, Charles and Camilla made official appearances in both Rome and Ravenna, leveraging the monarchy’s symbolic influence to reinforce cultural and diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Although the original plan included a formal visit to the Holy See, that portion was canceled due to Pope Francis’s recent hospitalization and ongoing recovery from double pneumonia. As a result, the royal itinerary was reshaped, with extended engagements in Rome and new elements added to existing appearances.

Sharing glimpses of their journey, the royal couple took to Instagram, posting charming photos of themselves amidst Italy’s stunning architecture and springtime blooms. A video clip also highlighted their meeting with President Sergio Mattarella at the Quirinale Palace.

Accompanying one of the posts was a heartfelt caption:
“As we begin our first visit to Italy as King and Queen, we are so looking forward to celebrating our twentieth wedding anniversary in such a special place – and with such wonderful people! A presto, Roma e Ravenna! -Charles R & Camilla R.”

Meanwhile, back in London on Tuesday, April 8, Prince Harry appeared in court to formally challenge the UK government’s decision to reduce the publicly funded security provided to him when visiting the country.

According to the BBC, the level of protection Harry receives is determined on a case-by-case basis. Although he has reportedly offered to pay for police security himself, the official committee responsible for royal security maintains that such arrangements must be centrally funded or not provided at all. As BBC’s Charlotte Gallagher put it:
“The funds either come centrally, or not at all.”

Harry’s court appearance marks the latest development in a legal battle that began in September 2021. After his initial application for judicial review was denied, he attempted to appeal—without success. However, in May 2024, he was granted permission to bring his case to the Court of Appeal, leading to the current proceedings.
