Seven Months Pregnant, I Found My Husband’s “Missing” Phone Hidden Behind The Bathroom Wall. The First Message Said, “When The Baby Is Discharged, She Comes Home With Us.” The Second Said His Mother Would Control My House And Accounts. That Was When I Realized They Were Not Planning A Divorce. They Were Planning To Remove Me.

Part 2 of 3

I looked at him and answered, “Maybe you are right.” His shoulders relaxed, and that was when I knew he believed the plan was working.

The Transition Plan

The hidden phone supplied the clearest evidence. A group conversation labeled “Transition Plan” included Nathan, Judith, and Tessa. Judith wrote, “We need two more incidents in front of relatives before filing. Something harmless but memorable.” Tessa replied, “Once Ella is born, I can take leave from work. The nursery is ready.” Nathan wrote, “The key is making Claire question her own memory. If she starts repeating our concerns herself, the conservatorship becomes easier.”

Another thread discussed my inheritance. Nathan called the literacy-center money “idle capital.” Judith believed it was being transferred temporarily into a family holding vehicle, while Tessa believed the Newport Beach deposit came from Nathan’s personal compensation. Nathan had lied differently to both women.

The accountant confirmed that the full $250,000 had been moved through layered transactions tied to Westhaven. Most of it funded the house deposit. Judith had authorized one transfer using paperwork Nathan claimed I approved, while Tessa signed buyer documents describing the funds as Nathan’s separate capital.

Marcus asked whether I wanted immediate legal intervention. I looked at my calendar. Nathan had scheduled a Sunday luncheon commemorating what would have been my mother’s birthday and had already told relatives that he needed to discuss my “mental deterioration.” He wanted witnesses.

“No,” I said. “I want everyone to hear the truth in the same room.”

Marcus studied me. “Then we control the evidence, not the emotion.”

Sunday at My Mother’s House

By two o’clock Sunday afternoon, the backyard was full. My sister, Rachel Bennett, arrived early with the forensic accounting records. Several relatives came, along with two retired teachers who had worked with my mother. Judith arrived carrying a leather portfolio. Tessa appeared later, claiming Nathan needed documents from the office.

Nathan spent the afternoon performing devotion. “Sit down, sweetheart. Do not lift that. You need to conserve your energy.” After dessert, he tapped a spoon against his glass and stood beside my chair with one hand on my shoulder.

“I need to share something difficult. Claire has been experiencing serious cognitive and psychiatric symptoms during pregnancy. She has forgotten appointments, left the gas on, misplaced important objects, and become increasingly suspicious of people trying to help her.”

Several relatives looked toward me. I kept my hands folded while Nathan continued. “Her doctors believe she may need specialized residential treatment after delivery.”

No doctor of mine had recommended anything remotely similar.

Judith opened her portfolio. “Until Claire recovers, I am prepared to serve as temporary conservator so her property and baby remain protected.”

Rachel laughed once, quietly enough to make everyone turn. “Protected from whom?” She placed the banking records on the table. “From the people who transferred $250,000 from our mother’s literacy fund into a Newport Beach house?”

Tessa’s face changed. Judith stared at Nathan. “What house?”

Rachel slid the purchase agreement forward. “The one being purchased under Nathan Reeves and Tessa Wynn.”

Judith stood abruptly. “You told me the money was going into a temporary family account.”

Tessa turned toward Nathan. “You told me that deposit came from your bonus.”

For the first time, Nathan had no prepared version.

I stood slowly. “We are not finished.”

I connected my tablet to the television inside the family room. The first video showed Nathan turning the gas knob at 2:08 in the morning. The second screen displayed laboratory findings from my tea. The third showed my physician’s independent assessment confirming that I was competent and exhibited none of the psychiatric condition described in Nathan’s draft report.

Then I displayed the messages. Nobody spoke while Nathan’s own words appeared across the screen: “The key is making Claire question her own memory.”

Judith covered her mouth. Tessa backed toward the doorway.

Nathan finally said, “Those messages are being taken out of context.”

Marcus Hale entered from the side hall. “Then providing context under oath should not be difficult.” He introduced himself as my attorney and explained that evidence involving unauthorized medication, fraudulent financial authorization, attempted conservatorship manipulation, and diverted inheritance funds had been preserved and referred to appropriate authorities.

Tessa grabbed her handbag. “I did not know about the drugs.”

I looked directly at her. “Did you know I was supposed to be placed in a facility after giving birth?”

She lowered her eyes.

“Did you know you were preparing to bring my daughter into a nursery while I was still alive?”

She said nothing, and that silence was enough.

Judith pointed at Nathan. “You lied to me.”

I almost laughed. “You were still willing to declare me incompetent and take control of my baby.”

Judith looked toward me. “I thought Nathan was protecting the family.”
