Fashion fans around the world were on edge yesterday, eagerly awaiting snaps of the First Lady and Princess of Wales meeting for their first public outing. Both Melania Trump and Kate Middleton had reportedly been looking forward to the encounter, with the future Queen reportedly complimenting the Slovenian-born star’s outfit.

King Charles III and Queen Camilla have been hosting US President Donald Trump and Melania at Windsor Castle since their arrival in the UK. Kate and Prince William greeted the Trumps after they disembarked from Marine One, escorting them to meet the monarch outside the palace. The day unfolded with state feasts, military parades, musical performances, and speeches.

Trump’s visit marked a historic milestone: he became the first political leader to be invited for a UK state visit twice, having been hosted by the late Queen Elizabeth II in 2019 during his first term.

Fashion Moments Steal the Spotlight

Onlookers were just as excited for the fashion spectacle. “Okay, the sheer amount of elegance and fashion in one room is going to be a global event,” one social media user wrote. Another added, “All I care about is Melania and Princess Kate’s drip.”

Kate reportedly complimented Melania’s choice of outerwear shortly after the First Lady arrived. According to professional lip reader Nicola Hickling, Kate playfully noted, “Your Macintosh is the same one I have, I wear it each time I fly.” Melania responded in kind: “I know, it’s exceptional and such a comfort. Sometimes I wear it to the house.”

This isn’t the first time the two have mirrored each other’s style. In 2017, Melania wore a powder blue dress and matching bolero for Donald Trump’s inauguration, a look that Kate echoed five years later in a cornflower Alexander McQueen gown. Both women are also fans of polka dots, with almost identical black-and-white spotty dresses appearing at different events: Kate at the 2022 memorial service for the Duke of Edinburgh, and Melania during National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month in 2020.

Later today, the pair are set to enjoy a private visit to Frogmore Gardens, joined by UK Scoutmaster Dwayne Fields and members of the Scouts’ Squirrels program, of which Kate was once a part and now serves as co-President.
