Kate Middleton’s ‘apology’ to Prince William on first overseas trip after birth of son George

A lighthearted moment between Kate Middleton and Prince William has resurfaced on TikTok, quickly going viral with nearly two million views. The footage, from the couple’s 2014 tour of Australia and New Zealand, shows Kate cheekily apologising to her husband after beating him in a sailing race.

The clip captures Kate saying “I’m sorry” with a grin, making it clear her apology was more playful than sincere. The couple had each helmed an Emirates Team New Zealand America’s Cup yacht in Auckland, with Kate securing victory — twice.

Fans charmed by royal moment

Royal watchers flooded social media with praise, calling the moment a glimpse of the Waleses’ down-to-earth relationship. The 2014 trip was their first overseas tour after the birth of Prince George, then just a toddler. While cared for by a nanny during engagements, George also charmed crowds with a few appearances of his own.

Kate hints at a return to Australia

In comments made earlier this year, the Princess of Wales revealed she hopes to return to Australia with all three of her children. She noted Prince George is fascinated by the trip but too young to remember it: “I would like to go back there with them now. It’s finding time to do that.”

Kate explained that official visits often leave little time for family experiences: “Otherwise, you end up seeing lots of insides of amazing buildings. But you don’t get to meet that many people.” She added she hopes future trips can combine royal duties with family time.
